AI Policy
In Short
✓ Our songs are written by humans.
✓ Our lyrics are written by humans.
✓ Our cover art is conceived and art-directed by humans.
✓ AI is used as a tool to assist our human creators—not as the creator itself.
✓ We believe transparency matters.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is changing creative industries in profound ways. We understand that people have strong opinions—both positive and negative—about its use in music, writing, and visual art. At Lonely Monday Records, we believe the best approach is transparency. Rather than asking people to guess how we use AI, we'd rather simply explain our creative process.
Songwriting
Every song released by Lonely Monday Records is written by human songwriters. Our lyrics, melodies, chord progressions, arrangements, and recordings are conceived and created by people—not generated by AI prompts.
Like many professionals, however, we sometimes use AI as an editorial tool after the creative work has already been completed. For example, AI may help us identify spelling or grammar issues, suggest ways to improve clarity, or evaluate completed lyrics against a detailed internal rubric that we've developed over many years. The creative decisions remain ours; AI simply provides another perspective during the editing process.
Cover Art
Many of our cover images incorporate AI-generated visual elements, while others use licensed stock photography or entirely original artwork.
Regardless of the tools involved, every cover begins with a human concept. The composition, subject matter, typography, layout, color palette, contrast, lighting, mood, and countless revisions are directed by members of our team—many of whom have formal education or professional experience in painting, drawing, photography, graphic design, commercial art, theatre, and music.
Every image we publish is intended to communicate the emotion and meaning of the song it accompanies. We judge our artwork by how faithfully it serves the music—not by the specific tools used to create it.
In other words, AI is one of the tools we sometimes use. It is never the creative director.
Why We Use AI
We're a small independent record label with very limited resources. Our primary mission is creating and recording original music. Modern AI graphics tools allow us to spend more of our time writing songs, recording performances, and producing music while still creating artwork that faithfully reflects the stories, emotions, and personalities behind each release.
We also believe that the people who wrote a song often have the clearest vision of how that song should be visually represented. Using modern creative tools allows us to translate that vision directly into cover art instead of trying to explain it through multiple rounds of commissions and revisions.
Our Philosophy
Technology has always influenced art. Multitrack recording, synthesizers, digital photography, Photoshop, streaming services, and modern recording software were all controversial at one time. We view AI as another tool whose value depends entirely on how thoughtfully and responsibly it is used.
We respect that reasonable people may reach different conclusions about AI-assisted artwork, and we welcome respectful discussion. Our commitment is simply to remain transparent about our creative process while continuing to produce music and artwork that honestly reflects our artistic vision.
